Meet the Team
Richard is the founder and owner of Empire Title Services. A native Floridian, Richard attended the University of Miami and Boston University before graduating from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He continued his education at the University of Florida and graduated from its law school in 1981 with honors and as a member of the prestigious Law Review. To further his education, Richard returned to law school at the University of Miami and earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) Degree in Estate Planning in 1995.
Richard’s involvement in the community includes service as President of the North Dade Bar Association and President of The Forum of North Dade. He has also served as a Miami-Dade County Civil Traffic Infraction Hearing Officer since 1993.
Richard practices law and specializes in real estate transactions, general civil litigation, estate planning and probate. Richard’s extensive legal experience, which helps him prevent and resolve difficult legal issues, provides a great benefit to the customers of Empire Title Services.
Cynthia Cohen is Vice President of Empire Title Services. Cynthia was born in Caracas, Venezuela and worked with her family’s business from the age of 17. Cynthia came to Miami to manage the export side of her family’s business at the age of 21. She graduated from Florida International University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2002 and after college, she decided to leave her family business and joined Empire Title Services in 2003.
As a result of over ten years worth of experience handling real estate closings, Cynthia is ideally suited to understand the needs of every party to a real estate transaction, whether they be buyers, sellers, realtors or mortgage brokers. Her focus and commitment to providing 100% customer satisfaction has allowed Empire Title Services to grow and prosper in the often tumultuous South Florida real estate market.
Kim is an attorney with Empire Title Services. She was born and raised in New England and graduated from the University of Rhode Island with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 2003. After college, Kim became a licensed real estate agent and sold residential real estate throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts where her performance earned her the title of “Rookie of the Year.” Kim decided to continue her education and followed her dream of becoming an attorney. She was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center and relocated to South Florida.
During law school, Kim served as the Executive Director of Competitions for the Moot Court Society and clerked for a well-known real estate attorney. Kim obtained her Juris Doctor Degree, cum laude, in 2009 and is licensed to practice law in several states, including Florida. Kim has handled a variety of civil litigation matters ranging from consumer collections and contract disputes to personal injury law. Kim currently focuses her practice on real estate transactions, probate administration, and landlord-tenant disputes. Kim is an active member of the Boca Chamber and her local bar associations.
Lana is a title attorney with Empire Title Services. She was born in Russia and uses her knowledge of the Russian language and understanding of Russian culture to bring unique value to the Empire team. Lana graduated, magna cum laude, from Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature and obtained Juris Doctor from FIU College of Law, where she was on the Dean’s List and earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Securities Regulation. Lana is admitted to the Florida Bar and is currently handling all transactions at Empire Title’s South Beach office.
Rose is an attorney with Empire Title Services. Rose is a South Florida native and originally hails from Miami Beach. She attended Cornell University’s world-renowned School of Hotel Administration. After a few years sourcing financing for new-build and refinanced hotels for Hilton Hotels World Headquarters in Los Angeles, CA, Rose returned to South Florida where she attended St. Thomas School of Law. She earned a host of highest grade achievement awards, participated in Moot Court Society competitions and was an active contributor to the school’s Law Review publications.
After graduating magna cum laude, Rose began her legal career practicing condominium law, representing several condominium associations in various contested collections matters. Rose continued her career working for a real estate firm in the Boca Raton area focusing on real property and probate law. Rose also holds a real estate brokerage license, and builds upon this experience to creatively structure real estate deals and expertly advise her clients. Rose currently represents sellers, buyers, and lenders in connection with the sale, purchase, and refinance of real property, and handles real estate litigation and probate administration.
Maricel Cruz is Empire’s Title Officer. Maricel speaks English and Spanish fluently. She is responsible for preparing Title Insurance Commitments, Title Insurance Policies, Deeds, Powers of Attorney, and other legal documents relating to real estate transactions. Before joining Empire Title Services, Maricel processed medical claims for the New York City Police Department while working for the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association. Outside of real estate law, Maricel devotes herself to her family.
Vanessa Gillespie is Empire Title Services’ Marketing Director. Vanessa was born in Manhattan, New York and moved extensively throughout her childhood. She lived in Argentina, Brazil, Nicaragua, and South Florida and is fluent in both English and Spanish. Vanessa graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. Throughout her college career, Vanessa was involved in the school’s extracurricular and charity programs and served as the Office Manager of the Student Government Services Office, Owl Productions. Additionally, Vanessa was awarded the Broward Student Government Recognition Award, the Spirit of the Year Award, and a Certificate of Appreciation.
Vanessa brings over 10 years of customer service, administrative, sales, and managerial experience to the Empire team. As the Marketing Director, Vanessa skillfully oversees operations, provides strategic direction for marketing initiatives, and is responsible for communicating Empire’s message and increasing brand awareness.
Lorena is a paralegal and title processor with Empire Title Services. She is a native Floridian, attended Miami Dade College-Wolfson Campus, and earned an Associates of Arts Degree and an Associates of Science Degree for Paralegal Studies. Lorena became well-versed in government banking laws and learned the value of exceptional customer service to clients during her tenure at JP Morgan Chase. She also has over five years of paralegal experience in many areas of the law. Lorena is committed to ensuring that all parties who place their faith in Empire Title experience efficient and smooth closings. Outside of the office, Lorena devotes herself to her family, yoga, and trail running.
Tamara Silber is Empire Title Services’ Office Administrator. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico and is fluent in both English and Spanish. Tamara graduated from Miami Dade College with an Associate’s Degree in Art Education and from the University of Central Florida with her Bachelor’s degree in Photography. After graduation, Tamara worked as a photographer for Walt Disney’s Epcot theme park and in Telemundo’s graphic design and TV production division. Tamara greets everyone who does business with Empire with a friendly smile, both in person and over the phone. Tamara is an integral part of every transaction that the Empire offices process from contract inception through final disbursements. Outside of the office, Tamara enjoys photography, music, and going to the beach.
Stacey is a legal assistant with Empire Title Services. She graduated from the University of Miami in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Chemistry. She has experience in many languages, including English, Russian, Hebrew, Spanish, French, Italian, and German. Stacey regularly prepares legal documents for attorney review, communicates with sellers, buyers, realtors, and vendors, throughout real estate transactions. Stacey engages in music composition and photography outside of the office.
